Becoming a Scout Leader is an incredibly rewarding way to give back to your community while developing skills that last a lifetime. Scout Leaders help young people grow in confidence, resilience, teamwork, and leadership — often while having just as much fun themselves! From outdoor adventures and camps to games, challenges, and life skills, no two weeks are ever the same.
Volunteering with Scouts builds transferable skills such as communication, organisation, problem-solving, and leadership, and offers the chance to form lasting friendships with like-minded adults. Whether you can give a little time or a lot, your involvement makes a real difference.
What does volunteering entail?
When you first join, you will be well supported by our leadership team who will take you through the required paperwork, initial training and criminal records checks. Our new online system is helping to smooth out the process.
Once you are fully trained, your involvement level is really up to your availability. Some leaders can make every week, and others may organise a few sessions per term. Equally, some may love to lead sessions, camps or activities, whilst other leaders prefer to help with admin, or helping out the scouts in the background at sessions and you may find that your role changes dependent on your circumstances. In general, most leaders probably spend a couple of hours a week during term time, but the more people on our team, the better it is for everyone so please drop us a message to get involved!
